Mannheim Process

The most common method for producing potassium sulfate is the Mannheim process, which refers to the reaction between potassium chloride (KCI) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) at high temperatures. Raw materials are poured into the center of a muffle furnace heated to above  600°C. Potassium sulfate(K2SO4) and hydrochloric acid (HCI) are generated through two-step reactions involving potassium bisulfate(KHSO4).This method for producing potassium sulfate (commonly abbreviated as SOP in the industry)accounts for 50% to 60% of the global supply.
